• Very good awareness and appreciation of different musical traditions and genres.

• An excellent understanding of how musical provenance – the historical, social and cultural origins of music – contributes to the diversity of musical styles.

• The ability to give precise written and verbal explanations, using musical terminology effectively, accurately and appropriately.

• A passion for and commitment to a diverse range of musical activities.

How is Music taught at our school?

We have opted to use Sing Up as a scheme of work to support our Music teaching in both schools.

Using Sing Up, children have the opportunity to listen and appraise, compose and perform using a range of instruments. Sing Up fulfils the National Curriculum requirements and demonstrates a clear progression of skills across the school. Performances are currently captured on Class Dojo so that we are able to share with parents.

Music is for everyone
Music is inclusive, irrespective of abilities. It can be of particular benefit to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities but also those who are marginalised, vulnerable and often hard to reach.

Music gives children a unique motivation to participate and communicate and advances in technology mean more children than ever can take part in and reap the many benefits of a music education.
