Spring Term

This term our history topic is Ancient Greece. We will be learning about who they were, their daily life, Athens and Sparta, Greek gods, the Trojan War and how the Olympics were started. In English, we are going to be reading ‘Who Let The Gods Out?’ which will help us to gain even further knowledge and understanding about this time in history. We will also be using this to develop our reading skills, writing information texts, job applications and advertisements.

In maths we will be developing our understanding of measure. This will include converting metric units, solving problems involving measure, and learning how to work out the area, perimeter and volume of shapes.

Science is going to involve studying the properties of materials. We will compare and describe these, aswell as build a perfect sandcastle! We are also going to be exploring the thermal conductivity of materials to improve energy efficiency.

In R.E. we will be looking at Christianity. We will be learning about the origins of human beings and the commandments. We have really enjoyed learning Spanish this school year. We are looking forward to learning Spanish numbers, days of the week, months of the year, seasons and dates this term.

Our focus in Art will be drawing and sculpture, linked to our history topic. We will be practising making different patterns with pencil, clay and charcoal and how these can be portrayed on a vase. We will be drawing our own ‘daily life’ picture, which will also be engraved onto our vase, which we will make out of clay.

In music we will be learning about Argentinian music. We will learn about different instruments such as the accordion and cello, and how instruments create texture when they are all played together.

Computing will involve us designing a 3D model using graphical modelling software ‘Tinkercad.’ In P.E. we will be developing our swimming strokes and improving our throwing techniques through netball.

In PSHCE, we will be learning about how to respond to different situations and feelings in others, including stereotypes and discrimination. We will develop strategies for dealing with conflict and look at what makes a healthy/unhealthy relationship.
