Autumn Term

This term our history topic is Anglo-Saxons. We will be learning about who they were, why
they came, links to religion and contrasting them with the Romans and Vikings.
In English, we are going to be reading ‘Beowulf’ and ‘Anglo-Saxon Boy’ which
will help us to gain even further knowledge and understanding about this time
in history. We will also be using these to develop our reading skills, writing
newspaper reports, a kenning poem and a biography.

In maths we will be developing our understanding of number. This will include comparing and
ordering them, rounding, using negative numbers, the four different operations,
multiples, factors and prime numbers.

Science is going to be out of this world! We will be studying Earth and Space. It will
start with looking at planetary motion and characteristics of planets, lead
onto the Big Bang Theory and then finish with phases of the moon and
gravitational force, comets, asteroids and meteors.

Islam will be our focus in R.E., as we learn about the key beliefs of this
religion and times at which they celebrate. We will also be learning about a
different culture in Spanish. We are really looking forward to starting to
learn this language and finding out more about their country!

Our focus in Art will be collage. We will start by researching famous artists and creating a
mood board, before we design and create our own.

In music we will be learning about sea shanties, looking at the history behind them,
harmonies and using cups and our bodies to create different beats. We will end
with creating our own musical notations, which will include chords.

Computing will involve us designing and developing computer programs and in P.E. we will
be developing our fitness and skills through track and invasion games.

In PSHCE, we will be learning about what a balanced lifestyle is, how to cope with intense
feelings and emotions, managing risk, peer pressure and drugs and alcohol.
