WELCOME TO YEAR 1/2!

 

Class 1 

Class Information 

Mrs Parrott is the Class Teacher. Miss Kelly is the Teaching Assistant in the mornings. Mrs Ledgerwood teaches on a Friday. 

Our PE days are Monday and Friday. PE kits can be worn all day on those days . 

Homework 

To accelerate reading progress, children are expected to read at home to an adult at least 5 times a week. Reading records will be checked every Friday. 

Year 2 weekly spellings should be practised on Spelling Shed. These will be practised and tested at school throughout the week. 

Spring 1  

In English, we will be using the story ‘Lost and Found’ to explore character’s feeling and thoughts and to write a story. We will be writing a non-fiction book about animals and writing rhyming poems. 

In Maths, Year 1 will be adding and subtracting numbers up to 20 and beyond.  Year 2 will be multiplying and dividing and learning about simple statistics. 

In Science, we will be learning about light and dark and day and night. 

In Geography, we will be studying hot and cold places. 

In Art, we will be exploring sculpture and collage and studying the artists ‘William Morris, Louise Bourgeois and John Henry Dearle’.  

In RE, we will be exploring further ideology in Islam. 

In ICT, we will be learning how to log onto a laptop and use word processing to create simple sentences and text. 

In Music, we will be learning to chant together rhythmically, marking rests accurately, play a simple ostinato on untuned percussion and perform word patterns in groups. 

 

Spring 2  

In English, we will be using ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’ to recount events. We will also be writing instructions and studying poems by Edward Lear. 

In Maths, Year 1 will be continuing to learn about place value, length and height and weight and volume.  Year 2 will be learning about shape and fractions.  

In Science, we will be learning about plants. 

In History, we will be learning about local heroes. 

In Art, we will be creating work, using animal habitats as our inspiration and also the work of Henri Matisse and Eric Carle.  

In RE, we will be exploring Places of Worship and Forgiveness. 

In ICT, we will be learning how to make a simple animation. 

In Music, we will be exploring the idea of musical conversation and learning and performing the song ‘Who stole the chickens and the hens?’
